Tony Brakohiapa with his new Ford Mustang
Mar 31st

Here is the new render for Tony Brakohiapa’s Ford Mustang and we are quite stumped. The car does feature a new look but lacks sponsors? The car not one sponsor sticker on it along with a race stripe that runs half of the car. The press release does feature a few nuggets of information like his US Army affiliation, why all these companies are not on the car is beyond me…..
Top Cover Racing (TCR) was launched in 2005 with the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen as its operational compass. The Tuskegee Airmen are the intrepid group of African-American U.S. Army Air Corps pilots and support personnel who distinguished themselves in World War II. Taking the name of the segregated base in Tuskegee, Alabama, where they trained, they were also known as the Red Tails for the distinctive paint scheme of their fighter aircraft. Compiling an exemplary record, they supported ground troops and escorted allied bombers and providing top cover on missions over North Africa and Europe. TCR includes direct descendents of the Airmen and the bomber crews they protected, with a number of original Tuskegee Airmen participating as mentors and advisors.
Brakohiapa is pleased to introduce new sponsors for 2010 Wilwood Brakes, and Sparco. He is happy to continue his relationships with Sams Autobody & Paint, Glazier Ironworks, Cooper Tires, Seibon, Eibach, Go Pro, Enkei, Exedy, Livernois Motorsports, Griggs Racing, Toi Boy Productions, and Barn Style Performance.

Boost Logic?s GT-R Standing Mile World Record at Texas Mile: 203.6 Mph
Mar 30th
Boost Logic have built one mean Nissan GT-R here. To prove it they ran it in the Texas Mile over the weekend and cracked the 200 mph mark in the standing mile without breaking a sweat. This makes them the first tuner to do so and etches their names in history.
The GT-R in question mas clocked at 203.6mph (327.6km/h) at the mile mark and made 823rwhp @ 25psi on their 2WD dyno. They feel that this is just the beginning and with more work the car has even more in it down the straight.
Modifications to the Boost Logic black GT-R to get it down the mile so quickly are:
- Boost Logic Twin Turbo Kit
- Boost Logic Intercooler with 3″ Piping Upgrade
- Tial Blow Off Valves
- Boost Logic 4″ Midpipe and Exhaust System
- Boost Logic Jet Fighter Exhaust Tips
- Boost Logic Stage 1 Fuel System
- HKS AFK
- HKS EVC 6
- Haltech Engine Management Tuned By Tuning Concepts
- Cobb Tune to remove Speed Limiters and Rev Limits
- ADV 5.1 Wheels
- HKS Coilovers
Congrats to the guys and good luck on your future plans of cracking the 210mph mark!

Be Your Own Racing Czar: A1 GP assets offered up in liquidation sale
Mar 30th

How do you spell “Boondoggle?” That would be “A1 GP.” The national-team based, FIA-sanctioned motorsport series declared bankruptcy at the end of last year and all of its holdings and intellectual property are up for sale, including the 20 Ferrari chassis that the Italians had been withholding for debts outstanding.
If the price is much higher than a penny, we question why anyone would want to get involved. In six years the series never made money, teams have been going bankrupt and there are current and potential judgments from individuals and territories against the entire series. Billed as The World Cup of Motorsport, the venture sounded good, and the list of drivers it attracted is seriously impressive, but making the necessary dough is another story.
Still, the administrator of A1 GP Operations is optimistic enough to say he hopes to have a purchaser in place by the end of March. We’ll keep an eye out for that announcement, but we think a safe bet with that penny would be on not seeing another A1 GP season. You’ll find a press release on the sale after the jump.

World Challenge 2010: Round One 7th Place Finish for Rivera in Nissan GT-R
Mar 30th
Brass Monkey racing had a mixed bag of results this weekend for round one and two of the World Challenge 2010 series at St Petersburg. With both GT-R’s qualifying in the top 10 (7th and 9th) things were looking positive but just after race start the #96 GT-R of Steve Ott collided with the #57 Porsche GT3 causing the GT-R to get airtime and break a wheel in the process. This put the #96 car out of action but Rivera in the other #97 GT-R was able to bring home 72 points with a 7th place finish.
In race two the #96 GT-R suffered from wheel issues and had to retire after 9 laps. Again Rivera continued on strong to finish in 8th spot for 68 points. A total of 140 points for the weekend for Rivera and 88 for Steve Ott.
TV coverage of the first two rounds is upcoming on the 18th of April on VERSUS and will be available on the world-challengeTV website after that time. We should hopefully be able to post some video of the action at that time.
For a full race report click through the jump for the media release from World-Challenge.com. Next up is the Streets of Long Beach Race on 16th – 18th of April for round 3 for 2010.

Nissan North America Follows Japan?s Lead With Steering Lock Service Campaign
Mar 29th
It’s officially official. Those of you with certain 2009 model Nissan GT-R’s could suffer from this steering lock issue that Nissan Japan had recently launched a voluntary service campaign to correct. As of last week it seems that Nissan North America began reaching out to those US customers with these vehicles to get them in for a pro-active replacement. The official wording of the TSB outline is:
CP 2009 GT-R; Steering Lock Unit – Voluntary Service Campaign
Nissan is conducting a Voluntary Service Campaign to replace the steering lock assembly on certain specific 2009 model year GT-R vehicles due to excessive oil within the assembly, which could cause the Body Control Module (BCM) to prevent the engine from starting when the ignition is cycled. This issue does not affect steering or engine operation when the vehicle is already running. See this bulletin for further detail.
So guys, if you’re an owner and you get this letter, get in to your dealer so you don’t get stuck somewhere. If you’re a second owner, see your local dealer to find out if you’re affected in case you don’t receive the letter yourself.
That this only effects early 2009 model cars leads me to believe Japan and NA may be the only regions effected. Nissan Australia didn’t respond to our inquiries to confirm this however.

Rossi and Stoner agree on one thing: Champs call for earlier start in Qatar
Mar 29th
Few duos in history have offered up more raw two-wheeled entertainment than that of Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi. Up to this point we are only sure that they ever agreed on one topic, that is, who should pass the checkered flag first. Each man would resoundingly agree that they, individually, deserve that honor.
Believe it or not, the battling duo has come together, united in purpose, to lobby for an earlier start at the Losail International Circuit’s “night race.” The event, held in Doha, Qatar, will mark the official kick-off of the 2010 Moto GP schedule. Traditionally, the Losail event barely squeezes into it’s scheduled date, with a start time of 11pm. Is this just because track management is so proud of those awesome lights? Dorna, which promotes Moto GP events, has several good reasons to host the race at its scheduled time. First, daytime temperatures in Qatar can be so brutal that they would make T.E. Lawrence blush, and second, the time slot allows the race to be broadcast live during prime viewing hours in Europe and acceptable hours in the U.S.
The argument from the riders is that the primetime slot is just too late. At this time of night, temperatures in the desert begin to take drastic swings, adding complexity to tire choice as grip rapidly changes along with those temperatures. Are there valid concerns here? It would seem so – amidst a recent test session at Losail, not one but three premier riders hit the tarmac later in the evening, all within moments of one another. If any one, or in this case two, people had a chance to change the GP schedule, we would put our money on the Rossi-Stoner alliance. But this close to the race, it remains to be seen if their collectively high-pitched voices will make it to any listening ears. Either way, if you missed the point, did we mention Moto GP is starting again? What was it they were worried about?

Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid finishes sixth in first outing, may come to U.S.
Mar 29th
Porsche’s new 911 GT3 R Hybrid completed its competition debut this weekend with a sixth-place finish. The new hybrid racer was fielded by the Manthey Racing team with factory support from Porsche. Defending American Le Mans Series driver’s champ Joerg Bergmeister was joined in the hybrid 911 by Richard Lietz and Martin Ragginger as the team got used to the all-wheel-drive car in preparation for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring in May.
The 911 uses an electro-mechanical flywheel energy storage system to drive a pair of electric motors attached to the front wheels. When braking, those motors generate electricity that spins up an integrated flywheel-motor-generator. Spinning at 40,000 rpm, the flywheel can release the electrical energy back to front motors on demand. The system was developed by the Williams Formula One team and licensed to Porsche.
According to Porsche spokesmen Steve Janisse and Andy Schupak, the automaker is in discussions with the American Le Mans Series about bringing the 911 hybrid to North America. There are regulatory differences between the Nürburgring Long Distance Championship, the ACO, and ALMS, which would require adjustments to the car. If the 911 performs well in the 24-hour race in May and the technical rules can be worked out, Janisse says that Porsche would like to have the car run at least one or two races here later this year, including Petit Le Mans.
